You are made up of three parts; your soul, your spirit, and your body. Your soul is a part of you, but it is not the real you. The hidden man of the heart, your spirit is the real you. When you are ready to leave this earthly body, I call it your earth suit, it is your spirit that will go on to Heaven. Your spirit will live eternally with the Father and Jesus in the Heavenly realms, and that is the real you. Your soul is where your mind, will, and emotions are. When you are born again, your spirit becomes right with God, but your soul and your body will not cooperate unless you make them. Your soul and your body are like children who must be disciplined. Your soul — your mind, will, and emotions want to do what they want to do, but your spirit is saying, “But God!” Your mind, will, and emotions can be redeemed, but it is done by the transforming and renewing of your mind by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God (see Romans12:2). Your soul can cause you to have emotions that are not based in fact. You could feel rejected even if you were never rejected. Your soul could tell you that everyone is looking at you when no one is looking at you. Feelings can lie to you, but your spirit will tell you the truth.
